Unfortunately for my first posting ever, I'm got some business with you. So I've worked out some of the basics of net publishing with my bro, but it looks like the easiest thing for me will be to make the whole reelcod website and then publish it all at once. This doesn't mean that there can never be changes, it just means that I'll probably do updates and stuff in big chunks. I would like to get the first version of reelcodrecords up there as soon as humanly possible, which I think will be probably be around Christmas. SO, if you want your input, as in ideas or additions for the website as a whole, or stuff for your band's page on the website (like links to other websites you own, tracks, zines, pics and other decor, videos, paypal and products, page counters, whatevs), it will have to happen by the 20th at the latest to get on the first incarnation. You can either arrange to meet with me (my place or yours) if you want to work on it together (I'll probably just let you go to town using my webpublisher, but it has to happen on my computer or i'll be way confused), or just email me a bunch of ideas and pics and whatever junk you want on there with good instructions as to what you want me to do with it. Don't worry, nothing will be set in stone, I just want to get something up and running soon. I'd rather you replied to me on email than the blog, I just thought i may as well post to catch your attention. I'll copy and paste into an email too.

Crazy guy

Holy shit. I just discovered that there are some fucking CRAZY people in this world. Like, literally fucking crazy. I was riding my bicycle back home after class this evening and, at an intersection, as I was going west on Harbord, I got off my bicycle at Spadina to walk through the pedestrians crossing north and south across Harbord, so I could remount and start riding north up Spadina (just past the pedestrian zone). It's hard to explain, but anyway, I CERTAINLY didn't do anything to warrant this fucking madness. This guy walks past from behind me and seems to be mumbling something angrily, and I realise that it's directed to me. And this happened:

Him: "[barely-heard initial angry grumbling]"
Me: "sorry"
Him: "Next time I'm gonna kick your fuckin bike out the way, buddy"
Me: "I'm sorry.."
Him: "Yeah you will be sorry!"

What the FUCK? Is this a practical joke? I don't get it. He literally acted like I ran over his first-born daughter. Holy shit. I thought he was going to kill me or something, and it was all just because apparently, while walking past, I cut him off and thus delayed his travel by like fucking half a second. And he was an adult, a fairly respectable, normal looking character, too, not a crazy teenager or something.
Anyway I'm completely unable to fathom how someone could get SO angry at such small shit. Like, how is this guy not in jail? I mean, I can't imagine how he'd react if someone was ACTUALLY rude to him or whatever.

As soon as he was sufficiently out of hearing range I was standing there still and people who were standing there around me, waiting for the light to change, were staring at him and shit, and i said "holy shit.. wow." and then took off. which is really bizarre for me because i said it loud enough that those around me could hear, and usually i'd be way too shy or whatever to say anything 'publicly' like that but it just came out, and i liked to think that the surrounding people were on my side.

White Magic

For those who couldn't make it the White Magic show tonight: A good time was had by all. Lots of us there got a chance to chat with band a bit, and even share a smoke before the show. Good people and good music all around. Left with a sweet & bacon taste in my mouth.

As a side note for all you natives of the P-I-C-K-E-R-I-N-G, these dudes stayed in your very own Best Western last night - small world. And MAY actually be staying with one Nicholas Kerr tonight should they need to. Exciting times. And their records are good too.

Who's ready to laugh up a storm?

Many of you have maybe checked out, or been shown this stuff by myself, but here it is again - it doesn't get old.

Check out the promo videos for "War Music" - sheer hilarity.

Am I the only one who thinks this is absolutely fall-down funny? Am I too hard on this guy? Seems like he's much more concerned with promoting himself & his "sweetly introspective singer-songwriter" image than any paper "concept" he uses to prop up these projects. It's kind of appalling if you ask me - super disrespectful to anything concerning war, to use something so super-horrific as a platform for attaining some kind of fascile emotional connection with an audience. Flat out gives bad bad singer-songwriters a bad bad name.

Also, check out his new album "Parliament" - with an almost equally hilarious video. Another chapter in DP's big book of albums weakly based around a lame concept.

Maybe it's just that I'm a bitter and lonely person - but this guy sucks. He's putting himself out there though, at least, you've gotta give him that. If only it wasn't the fakest lamest thing ever it might be good. Gotta admire the ambition and the effort...

And yes, that is DP's voice referring to himself in the third person in the War Music video.

Julie Fe-Fe-Felix

This is a post about a lady named Julie Felix. She's a hip lady. I never really heard of her until recently, but she's apparently pretty major in Europa. Even had her own show on BBC. Anyway, I don't want to say too much - just download & enjoy. This album is called "The World Goes Round & Round" was made for Fontana in 1968 & is tres good, in my humble opinion. Highlights include a version of "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" and "Fare Thee Well", among others. Also, enjoy these photos of Mademoiselle Felix.

Dudley Whitemud Plays Selections from Aqua's "Aquarium"

Indie-hipster ironic kitsch at its finest. Don't know anything about this disk other than it came from winnipeg. The cdr is encased in a canvas sleeve hand-cut & glued by whitemud himself. It is one of the treasures of my collection. AQUA is the underrated ABBA of our generation. whitemud sings them like the campfire folk songs they'll become 1000 years from now after the apocalypse. & the second coming of christopher reeve. Google turns up one hit for "dudley whitemud" here.
Ominous indeed.
